At Least My Nose Isn't Gushing Blood
All right, there's enough going on, release announcement-wise, here at CES that it warrants a new post. The show hasn't even started yet, but the Blu-ray title announcements are already starting to pour in. First, I had posted this in my previous post because I didn't want to start a new one, but let me cut it from that one and paste it here instead:
"This didn't seem worthy of a whole new post, but we've finally, finally actually announced Ghostbusters for a June Blu-ray release (this was the "favorite movie" to which I have been referring since Comic-Con). Of course, there is a drawback...no Ghostbusters II at this time. Believe me, I argued for it, and there is a reason we're not doing it yet, but...there you have it. Also a bummer: no Ecto-1 here at CES. Now that we've announced the title, I can say that we had been thinking about driving the Ecto-1 out here to Las Vegas to drum up some press (as per one of my earlier posts...not the Back to the Future DeLorean, though that would be my ultimate car fantasy), but due to behind-the-scenes reasons, that idea was stowed. Alas...but still, Ghostbusters on Blu-ray, and for real this time."
So that's one of my favorite movies coming to Blu-ray this year (for sure this time). And speaking of favorite movies:
The other pseudo-announcement today has come from Disney, which has released a list of titles coming to Blu-ray throughout 2009 (amongst "many more" unannounced titles). I say "pseudo-announcement" because they didn't reveal any dates aside from January/February releases, but they do have some pretty great titles coming to the format in 2009: A Bug's Life, Monster's Inc, Good Will Hunting, and Lost: Seasons One and Two are certainly all on my "thrilled about" list. They're also doing some high-profile titles that don't interest me personally (Pulp Fiction, Sin City, Rounders, Snow White and the Seven Dwarfs, Pinocchio), but they're certainly good for the format as a whole.
As stressed out as I am about CES from a work perspective, I do always get excited about the event because of all the studio announcements. Last year it was fun to be at CES, as I had read about it for years prior...this year, it's just a big wall that I have to scale before I can breathe a little bit easier. But I have to say, even though it's work, I do still really love Blu-ray, and I can't help but get pumped up every time a cool title gets announced. Let's hope that Fox/MGM, Paramount and Universal also tease their 2009 slates this week....
