What is the best present you have ever given?

The pleasure of my cheery company to everyone I've ever met. With that blatant lie out of the way (certainly the "cheery company" part), I have to say that this is a weird question that one doesn't hear that often. Usually, the question is "What was the best present you've ever received," perhaps to go along with that "giving" holiday spirit that I keep hearing so much about. But oddly, the question rarely gets reversed, and so I doff my hat to Quornflour for shaking things up a bit and putting the focus of this time of year squarely where it belongs: on the givers.

But the answer to that question is difficult to discern. If I once gave someone something that I felt was awesome and would well and duly rock their world, who's to say that they didn't feign their excitement, then toss it in a nearby trashcan? Or what if the greatest present I've ever given was something I didn't even realize I gave, like hope or advice? Yes, I'm thinking about this way too much, but I think I'm just stalling...I can't specifically remember any present I've given where the receiver visibly melted inside and had an orgasm right there on the spot. Well, except once, but that wasn't really a present...nonetheless, it probably comes closest to my above description, so here goes.

Before Tina and I officially started dating, we were fooling around for a couple of weeks (it's a long story). However, she was in love and all of that and my feelings lay elsewhere. After a week or two of that, we went to a friend's birthday party, where Tina proceeded to make out with some guy in the pool (she was classy, that one). Surprisingly, this affected me and I realized that I did, in fact, have feelings for her...but it was too late. She started going on dates with this guy, much to my chagrin. After about a week of that, I told her that it bothered me, and she gave me her ring and said that it represented our feelings for each other and that I should keep it (ah, high school...no melodrama too great). A few days later, our school held its prom, and though I was only a sophomore, I went as the newspaper/yearbook photographer. As a junior, Tina went as an invited guest with one of her other male friends.

While at that prom, I stewed and pondered my situation. Near the end of the night, I was sitting alone as everyone was on the dance floor. Tina came over, sat down and asked what was wrong. I then launched into a lengthy speech (probably peppered with verbal ellipses) about how I wasn't as brawny or cool or aggressive as that guy from the party, but I did have "this"..."this" being her ring that I pulled out of my pocket and gave back to her. At that point, she visibly melted inside and (especially knowing Tina) had an orgasm right there on the spot. From that point on, we were dating.

So like I said, it wasn't really a "gift"...but it's definitely the most memorable thing I've ever given anyone (aside from syphilis). I think that's a better answer than, for instance, the Ocean's Thirteen poster I gave my sister or anything like that. Of course, that was almost ten years ago at this point...kinda sad that the best gift I've ever given was almost ten years ago. I'd probably better work on that....
